What is Taiko?

Taiko is the art of Japanese Drumming.  It is an ancient, sacred practice in Japan.

Taiko Drumming  has been an important part of the Japanese Culture for hundreds of years, in fact it is said that Taiko is the heartbeat of Japan.

Drums were used in ancient Japan to communicate between villages, announce celebrations and to signal emergencies.

Farmers used to call the gods to awaken the spirits of rain, to drive away pests in rice fields, and to give thanks to the gods at harvest time.

Modern Taiko combines the elements of spirit, rhythm, harmony, movement, voice, dance and group dynamics.

When these elements are put together, we create an incredibly dynamic and fascinating performing art.
